Is anyone still out there? :) I sure hope so, and I hope your knitting is going well. If you've got updates and progress, let us know! If you've hit a roadblock, feel free to share that too!

I've just received my yarn (kyarns.com this time) for my second (and third for a friend) sweater. This time the color match is dead on - charcoal heather from plymouth encore, I highly recommend!

I'll post new pictures of this one as it goes as well! And let me know you guys are still around, respond and say hi!

Finished Quidditch Sweater

Thursday night I stitched down the collar to the inside of the finished sweater, which completed my Ravenclaw book colors Quidditch sweater. Here are a couple of pictures of the finished sweater. It still needs the soak and block to neaten everything up, but I am pleased with it and wanted to posts pics on it. After blocking it I will have someone take pictures of me wearing it and post them.

At the cuffs on the sleeves I needed to decrease several stitches, but did not want to break the K2P2 rib pattern from the sleeves. So on a wrong side row I purled the entire row with the decreases then went back to K2P2 rib on smaller needles. It gave me the tighter cuff without having to go to a K1P1 rib for them.

It's turned out to be a pretty comfy oversized sweater. The sleeves are a touch long on me, but I folded up the cuffs and it works out alright. FYI, it is made of Wool of The Andes, Winter Night and Maple Syrup. I still have several balls of yearn left so I plan to make a matching scarf and hat for myself out of it.

Yay!

I'm going to do another one if I can find the darker charcoal yarn, but this is as dark as I could find without going totally black. I'm generally happy with it, with a few exceptions:

-I made the body a touch larger, but not the sleeves.
-The neckline isn't as deep as I would have liked.

Other than that - I really am happy with this sweater :) I took the pictures last night (when I clearly looked OH SO LOVELY) because my husband was supposed to go out of town, and I wanted to get them taken right away.

For my very first sweater, I'm pleased. :)

Inch by inch

In the flurry of a family wedding and starting holiday gifts my poor Quidditch sweater has been neglected. However, I took pity on it last night (actually, I just couldn't bear having it glare at me anymore!) and finished the back. Now I have 66 rows to do in the front, pick up the sleeves and knit the neckline. Simple, right? With 1 1/2 months to go before movie-time, I hope to have it done by the first week of November, at the latest.

Slightly discouraged by not finishing the sweater in time for the Con, I had turned my attention back to my POA scarf, which is now complete and ready for de-fuzzing :P I've been knitting the sweater again in the mornings and evenings in my carpool with work, and the last sleeve should be finished on the way home!

From here, it's just sweater assembly, and knitting the collar ribbing. Yay!

I think next I'm going to try the qudditch sweater myself. From what I've seen from those doing it, it looks like such a great sweater!!

Sweater Update!

I tried to get my sweater done for D*C, but to no avail. Ah well!

I've now got front, back and one sleeve done, and am working on the second one. I've also decided that I'm going to knit a second one in the darker yarn to be more movie accurate. This will mean getting a new skirt, but meh - the things you do for proper costuming :)

Here's me in my Hogwarts uniform from this weekend, as it was movie accurate without the sweater as well (and way to hot for my scarf, which wasn't done yet either :P)

Here's me and a guy in a Quidditch uniform - I didn't get to ask him if he had knit the sweater himself :)

She did actually knit this sweater - it wasn't ribbed though, and even though it looked great I found that I prefer the ribbed ones that most of our members are working on.

i have been a major picture slacker, so i have no proof of my progress. i will tonight though, i promise!!

thanks to a looong car trip and lots of sitting around chatting with my knitting in my lap, since saturday morning i've cast on and finished the back of the POA/GOF sweater, with a gryffindor 1/2/1 stripe on the bottom, as well as cast on and finished the ribbing + about 2o rows of the front of the sweater. at this rate i very well might be able to finish it for D*C, which i'll be leaving for in 6 days, with another car ride to work on the sweater on! :)

i'm invisioning blocking this thing at the hotel, which will be interesting to say the least. the main sweater color i made a booboo on too that i didn't realize until the back was half done - the color matching i did was way off, and i matched to the COS/SS sweaters :P oh well, i figure i'd like to make another one someday anyways, since these look like great sweaters - i just gift this one to someone else after i've used it for D*C and halloween.

i'm debating wearing my costume to the GOF premiere. my husband gives me terrified looks when i say that. :P hope all your knitting is going swimmingly!!

I have noticed that several of you have personal Blogs here on Blogger. How does it compare to Live Journal for use and features? I love the LJ communities, but want to do more with my personal journal without having to get a paid account and I am thinking of starting up a personal blog here on Blogger.

Knitting Update

It has been rather quiet here, must be all the knitting we are doing, so here is a project update on what is on my needles....

QUIDDITCH SWEATER: I have about 9" done on the back. The width is measuring correctly so my gauge calculations were correct (math rocks!)

DUMBLEDORE SCARF: Washed, blocked and fringe added to one end. I am not a lover of making fringe, but it needs to be done. Pictures when it is all completed.

SILK/CASHMERE SWEATER: a non-HP project with a tragic history (see my LiveJournal for details). I have decided to make it a vest rather than a mock turtleneck, I just don't have enough of the yarn to make the sleeves. I will have some leftover which I can incorporate into a house project, being it is a silver-grey color.

I'm Gloria, from Toronto. I've been lurking around for a bit, and Misty was nice enough to invite me!

I'm a novice knitter; I've been knitting since April, and I'm working on a POA Ravenclaw scarf (film colours) at the moment. I'd love to try to knit up a Ravenclaw school sweater vest for the GOF premiere; I've looked at the Hobbie pattern, and I have to admit I'm not experienced or mathematically-talented enough to adjust the pattern for myself. I'm hoping perhaps someone here has the time and inclination to help me out.

I've considered adapting a sweater vest pattern (off Knitty), but it has 2X2 ribbed armholes, V-neck band, and waist band, so I thought the colour changes for the stripes would show when the vest was worn. Does the Hobbie pattern include stripes?

I really love how everyone's Quidditch sweaters are turning out (the pattern I looked at called for DK weight yarn, but I see most people seem to be using worsted?), and I'd like to knit one of my own after the flurry of GOF.

The Quidditch Sweater...so far

Well, here it is so far. The stitches on hold at the front mark where the split for the armholes will be. I've knit about an inch up in the back and will continue until it is 11 inches above the black bar (10" above the armholes). Then I'll do the same to the front, three-needle bind off on the shoulders and pick up stitches for the sleeves. That way I can more easily line up the stripe. Once that's done, I'll pick up the neck in black to do a stripe there, then switch to yellow to do the rest.

Oh, and it really isn't such a bright gold. I took this last night under a pink bulb and with an indifferent flash. It is a slightly orange-yellow, but will pass for Hufflepuff yellow and not Gryffindor gold!

It's been nearly a month since my LYS told me that they'd have my encore worsted in charcoal for me for my sweater. Today no one even picked up the phone there! I'm going to D*C at the end of this month, and while I have no delusions that I'll have the sweater done for that, I'd like to be able to knit on the car ride there and back.

Sooooo. Since you all have talked about knitpicks yarn, and since i've heard about it on the LJ Knitting community for ages, I'm giving it a try. I just ordered 10 skeins (I am a chronic over-orderer of yarn) of coal, 3 day shipping. Woot.

I can't wait to start my sweater!! :)

Started Quidditch Sweater (with pics!)

So it has been a week since I got my yarn delivered, I already knit up my gauge swatch and I cast on the back and have knit almost 5 inches on it. I figured it was time to get out the digital camera and take some pictures to share with everyone. Let me say that I am loving the Wool of the Andes from Knit Picks, it knits up even softer than I had expected and I really love the colors. So here we go with some pictures:

Here we have all of the yarn, my swatch and the start of the back. It's a good match of the color in this image too.

Here are 2 shots of my gauge swatch. I added a stripe in the swatch to see how well the colors worked together because I wasn't all too thrilled with it at first. But seeing them knit together changed that, I love the combination. I also tried a K2P1 pattern at the top, but preferred the K2P2.

And here is the back of the sweater. I did 3 inches on smaller needles then switched to larger for the body.

And that is my Ravenclaw Quidditch Sweater to date!

As for other Harry Potter knitting... I am on the last main color panel of the Dumbledore Scarf. I should have that done this week. I started a book scarf, but it kinda got put aside. I'm sure I'll pick it up at some time. I will be starting 2 smaller sized Gryffindor SS/CoS style scarves. A friend of my mother's want to give them to her grandchildren so I said I would make them. They are 6 and 7 yos, so full sized scarves would be too big, so I plan to scale them down.

Well, the beginnings of one, anyway. I've reached the stripe around the chest on my sweater. I just have to say how much I love the Merino Style. It is so nice to work with: soft, doesn't split and splices nicely. Yes, I do like to splice my ends together when possible. I've done it on several projects with much success. Once the final piece is washed and blocked, even I have a hard time finding them. I do, of course, weave color changes in traditionally.

At this rate, I expect to finish the body in a week (I've got some other projects that are calling for equal time) and be able to start picking up for the sleeves. Since they are much smaller, they shouldn't take much time, so with luck, shortly after Labor Day I should have my spiffy sweater all set to take its patch!

Yarn Delivered!

The yarn for my Ravenclaw House Quidditch Sweater arrived on Monday! I had it delivered to me at work, since there is no one here during the day to sign for a package delivery. My co-workers were more excited about me opening the box and looking at the yarn than I was. I ordered Wool of the Andes from Knit Picks and I am using the colors Winter Night (a deep royal blue) and Maple Syrup (a warm reddish brown). I wasn't sure about the colors when I first saw them, but the flourescent light at work did not show them at their best, they look much better in natural light. I also knit a stripe of brown into my swatch to see the colors combined and it looks like they will work well together. I'll post pictures of the swatch tomorrow, I really like they way the K2P2 pattern is looking with this yarn and these colors. I am happy with my gauge and will probably be casting on the back tonight.

FYI...this was my first time ordering yarn online. I placed the order on August 1st and it was delivered on the 8th. I will most likely order from them again and maybe try the other sites that have been suggested. I mean I do have so very little yarn on hand....lol!

I'm Michelle! Hello, nice to meet you all! I have been knitting since 3rd grade or so. Dunno how long I've liked Harry Potter, since the 3rd book or something. I'm knitting the jumper for the Hogwarts uniform, because I'd rather knit it than buy it. I'm dressing up as someone from Ravenclaw with a bunch of my friends (all going as people in different houses) (and I'm NOT being Cho). I forgot what the yarn I'm using is called, but I got it at my LYS (on sale!).

The oh-so-soft Merino yarn order arrived just a few minutes ago. What a great surprise!
Must add that we are pleasantly surprised with the quality of the yarn. Now, if it behaves the way we hope, then it is indeed an incredible value. Any other Merino is at least twice the price.
We will come up with accurate stitch and row gauge for the cardigan pattern before we add the pattern to the website.

Good evening ladies... there is a man in the house so we are now knitting co-ed.

My name is Vince and if you are part of Live Journal's HPKnitting, then you know me as yarnguy716. I have been a knitter, on and off, for nearly 20 years now. I have knit 6 of the Hogwarts House Scarves (5 SS/CoS style and 1 POA style) and I am currently working on what a bunch of us have dubbed "The Dumbedore Scarf." It is coming along nicely and I should have it done in about a week or so with some dedicated knitting put in it.

With the scarf being nearly done I decided that I needed a Ravenclaw house Quidditch sweater that I could wear once Goblet of Fire is released. It also justified my placing an order for wool with Knit Picks. I checked on my order and it has been shipped, so I should be able t ostart my gauge swatch in 5 to 15 days depending on how soon I receive my package.

Well that is all for now. I will be stopping in to see how everyone is prgressing and to let you know what my project status is. Looking forward to seeing what you all come up with.

I'm going to be making a scarf and a sweater, though I haven't gotten the yarn for any of it yet. :P I've also been eyeing Knitpicks' Merino Style but I've become enamoured with the idea of making the scarf/sweater with silver (Slytherin, teehee) yarn and not grey, but I haven't found any that matches the recommended guage of Merino Style. What'd you guys think? I'm wondering if it'll end up too shiny... My sweater's going to be school robes style, but I'm kinda stuck between PoA and the earlier movies. I actually prefer PoA's scarf & tie style with the thinner stripes but I like the sweater of the three movies before (stripes along the v-neck instead of the sleeves and waist). Wonder if it'd be okay to mix and match. @_@;; But then again, PoA style sweater might be easier to do.

Anyways, can't wait to see all your lovely sweaters! :D Nice to meet all of you. ^_^

Quidditch, anyone?

Yay, me! My yarn for my Hufflepuff Quidditch sweater arrived today! I'll be casting on tonight, you can be sure.

I'm using Knit Picks Merino Style in Honey and Coal and US6 needles. Rather than knit flat and seam (something I hate doing), I am going to make mine in the round. The only thing I'm a bit nervous about is lining up the black stripe on the sleeves with the body. But, I figure since they are knit after the body and then attached, as well as being done cuff-up, I can slip it on and see where things fall, right? Even if it's off a row or so, that shouldn't be too bad. *crosses fingers and toes*

Looking forward to seeing your sweaters, ladies. :D

Starting the Sweater!

I'm working on the PoA Gryffindor scarf right now, but next up for me is the Gryffindor House sweater.

I've ordered 5 skeins of charcoal Plymouth encore, and next I need to figure out how to do the sleeves, as the only pattern I've found is a sleeveless one - I keep trying to resist the urge to take the easy way out, and make it sans sleeves. :)

I hope to have it done by halloween, but it'd be nice if I had it done prior to Dragon*con on Labor day weekend. I've already bought a skirt and a tie from wizard ties - so with the exception of the robe, the whole costume will be in my house in some form in the coming week or two!

I'm not really sure how many people will be doing this sweater, but I've found that knitalongs are a great motivation - at least for me!
